Manly Firmness

Happy 232nd to the United States of America!

This morning, as I was contemplating the declaration of independence--marvelling at its grammar and vocabulary (it uses the word "usurpations" several times)--I came across this in the list of the crimes of King George III against the colonial settlers:

"He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people."

Men in wigs, opposing the king with manly firmness--now that's a good way to start a country.

Have a hot dog today, in celebration. :)
